What's Going on this Week!
Reading/Language Arts
This week we will continue with our new Reading Street story. Our story is Dot and Jabber and the Great Acorn Mystery this week. Our Question of the week is "How do we solve mysteries?". We will talk about different ways to solve mysteries and what some different mysteries are that we may need to solve.
This week we will be reviewing adding endings to words. We will be reviewing the vowel sound -oo-, and hearing it in both ways (ie good/pool). This should be a review from learning about it in phonics, so this should help them to master it. We will review the ou/ew. We will also continue to review pronouns and how to use them in sentences.
Our sight words this week are among, another, instead, and none. By the end of this week they should be able to read and use the sight words in sentences. All the sight words we have learned can be found in the sight word section of the webpage.

We will quiz on these concepts on Tuesday.
Next we will be introducing how we can move shapes. We will use the terms slide, flip and turn. These terms can easily be confusing and seem the same. We will talk about each one and use our pattern blocks to model each movement. We will then understand how we can use these movements to make a pattern.
Religion
This week we will be talking about the importance of the holy spirit. We will learn about how Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help his followers and to guide them. We will learn about the pentecost and talk about its importance to Jesus' followers. The students will review the importance of the Holy Trinity and the importance of the Holy Spirit.
Science
In Chapter 3, we will be talking about the characteristics of plants and animals and how these characteristics help them within their habitat. We will talk about the food chain and how Animals and plants can use one another. We will also look at the parts of a plant to understand what each part of a plant does to help it function. We will have a test next week.
Social Studies
In Chapter 4 we will learn about the world. We will learn about the vocabulary of weather, mountain, plain, lake, river, natural resource, and history. We will learn about different kinds of weather and how it can effect the landscape. We will learn about different landscapes throughout the world and about the natural resources we can find.
Phonics
This week we will be reviewing our digraphs: sh, th, wh, and ch. We will be hearing them in the beginning, middle and end of words. The students have been introduced to them in Reading Street, so this unit will be more of a review and help them strengthen their understanding of the digraphs. We will continue to work on blending sounds to make words, hearing the individual sounds in words, and substituting and deleting sounds in words to make new words. We will be working on making rhyming words with nonsense words.
Handwriting
We are continuing to work on handwriting. The students are working on writing neatly as well as using finger spaces between their words. Regularly doing handwriting at home is a great help to doing handwriting in school!
